The S.W.A.T Ministry was started to reach out to the homeless community of Indianapolis. The S.W.A.T ministry is at work 365 days a year.
You can catch the S.W.A.T team on any given night downtown. You can also find them running all around town on Saturdays checking on various campsites of the homeless or having lunch with them at the LightHouse Mission on Market St. downtown.
Through our partner churches, we are able to serve a hot meal to the homeless men and women that come through the S.W.A.T ministry every saturday night at 5 o’ clock. Right before they are fed the Word.
They are also provided with a chance to get some much needed toiletry items, and clothing.
The S.W.A.T House Program
The S.W.A.T house is a program designed to help homeless men get their lives back in order and stabilize themselves. The way the house does this is by asking for a 1 year commitment. The year is broken into 3 phases of 4 months each.
Phase 1: The first 4 months the guys are asked to do nothing more than to build themselves up in Christ. They achieve this foundation by attending Bible Studies Mondays and Thursdays nights. They must also attend Cityview’s service on Saturday nights. Also in Phase 1 we ask that the men serve Cityview Christian Center 3 days a week and also serve any of our partner churches when asked to do so. They have 2 days off each week.
Phase 2: The second 4 months of the year, the men are asked to serve the church as much as possible while they are out job searching and/or working. Phase 2 is basically the time period where the men (with assistance from the S.W.A.T commander) find employment. Once employed the men are asked to put back 65% of their paychecks into a savings account monitored and set-up by Pastor Tim. When they leave the program they will have hundreds, if not thousands of dollars saved up.
Phase 3: The third and final 4 months of the year we ask the men to continue their bible studies and church services. Also we ask that they continue to serve Cityview as much as they can. Their main focus during this time period is looking for a place to move into. Chuck also helps the men out with this phase of their life. We want them to have a place that keeps them away from what ever addiction or problems they might have had in the past that caused them to be homeless. When this phase is over the men will have saved enough money to have their rent, deposit, utilities and maybe even enough to get the furniture they will need to fill their new home.
